THE ACCRA ZOO (ACHIMOTA ECOLOGOCAL GARDENS)

 The Accra zoo which used to be situated at Kanda experienced management issues for which it was announced that the zoo was being moved to Kumasi so to allow for innovations.

Well, after the long wait, the Accra Zoological Gardens has been move to Achimota hence the Achimota Ecological Park is its new name. The zoo lies 1700m deep within the Achimota Forest with poles mounted to direct people entering the zoo.

Well, monitor lizards as well as snakes walk freely in the zoo but that does not mean they attack people using the pathway to the zoo.

There are monkeys, crocodiles, lions, snakes, different species of birds, deers, antelopes etc all in the zoo. There are hopes to expand the zoo to include more animals. It is worth paying a visit to the zoo so to help management raise more money to help expand it.

THE GUANS (This article is directly sourced from my book: Know Ghana Better) The Guans believe themselves to be a branched family with the Akan tribe (not all of the Guans though). They migrated from Egypt and through several linguistic zones got to Mali. Their territory extended from parts of present day Mali to present day Senegal. They formed clans and the clans were Ndenye, Shuoyi and Le. The clans were formed for purposes of defence and for other linguistic and cultural functions. After some years, a group of Guans who were at present-day Senegal and members of the Shuoyi clan called the Ngbanye set off to Ghana. Perhaps there was a pre-meditated decision by the Ngbanye and the other Guans to find a more suitable settlement. It is also believed that the leader of the Ngbanye sought the assistance of a soothsayer who foretold him that he will be great in a foreign land. THE EFUTUS ( Article directly sourced from the book KNOW GHANA BETTER written by Huniah Tetteh ) The Efutu ancestors lived with the Ga people when the others had left for the mountains. With time, their dialect was fading away as they became bilingual Ga and Efutu speakers and most of them alternated for the Ga language. The Ga people were confused about the type of language they were speaking. It seemed to be a mixture of languages. Also they had mixed up with the Ga people hence the name “Efutu” which means “mixed-up” in the Ga language. The Efutu learnt fishing and after some years of living with the Ga-Dangmes, they decided to leave to a desolate land where they can salvage their language which had broken down into dialects. It is spoken mainly in Ghana’s Western Region and parts of Ivory Coast, where it connects communities across borders.
