KNOW GHANA BETTER HISTORY AND LANGUAGE BOOK

  •  KNOW GHANA BETTER is a book that I, Huniah Tetteh, wrote to document the oral histories of the Ghanaian tribes, their festivals, tourist sites, legends and many more. I spent time travelling across the country and staying with natives of different tribes just to understand who they are so, I put out great details of each tribe out there. I started at the age of 14, asking people about their languages and culture. I began travelling at age 18 after I started working and making my own money.
One can use this book as a festivities and a personal tour guide as it contains great details about Ghana's hidden locations, languages and people. Know Ghana Better also has facts about African languages and not just Ghana. There are 9 language families in Ghana which have been recorded in the book Know Ghana Better. They are

THE PEOPLE OF AKPOSSO & AKPOSSOKUBI

THE AKPOSO OR AKPOSOKUBI (With the chief of Akpossokubi and his Otsiame ) The people of Akposo speak Ikposo . They were the first inhabitants of the Oti Region as it is believed.  Their original name is the Ayade people. Ayade means “children of God.” They migrated from Ancient Abyssimia presently Addis-Ababa through Sudan, Ile-Ife to the then Togoland and with time, they got to their present settlement in Ghana. During their migration, they rode camels till they got to their present settlement. They passed by the Ewes to Ghana thus, the Ewes called them those who ride the camels “Akpɔ ɔsɔ” which gradually came to replace their original name Ayade after the Ewes got to Ghana. The Ewes continued to refer to them as Anyigbatowo meaning “the owners of the land” as they are believed to be the first inhabitants of the Oti and Volta Areas. COMPLETE HISTORY OF THE GUAN PEOPLE AND THEIR LANGUAGES

THE GUANS (This article is directly soucred from my book: Know Ghana Better) The Guans believe themselves to be a subgroup of the Akan tribe (not all of the Guans though). They migrated from Egypt and through several linguistic zones got to Mali. Their territory extended from parts of present day Mali to present day Senegal. They formed clans and the clans were Ndenye, Shuoyi and Le. The clans were formed for purposes of defence and for other linguistic and cultural functions. After some years, a group of Guans who were at present-day Senegal and members of the Shuoyi clan called the Ngbanye set off to Ghana. Perhaps there was a pre-meditated decision by the Ngbanye and the other Guans to find a more suitable settlement. It is also believed that the leader of the Ngbanye sought the assistance of a soothsayer who foretold him that he will be great in a foreign land.
