THE GUANS (This article is directly sourced from my book: Know Ghana Better) The Guans believe themselves to be a branched family with the Akan tribe (not all of the Guans though). They migrated from Egypt and through several linguistic zones got to Mali. Their territory extended from parts of present day Mali to present day Senegal. They formed clans and the clans were Ndenye, Shuoyi and Le. The clans were formed for purposes of defence and for other linguistic and cultural functions. After some years, a group of Guans who were at present-day Senegal and members of the Shuoyi clan called the Ngbanye set off to Ghana. Perhaps there was a pre-meditated decision by the Ngbanye and the other Guans to find a more suitable settlement. It is also believed that the leader of the Ngbanye sought the assistance of a soothsayer who foretold him that he will be great in a foreign land. Spoken by the Dangme people, this language connects communities, preserves ancient wisdom, and stands as a proud marker of cultural heritage. Let’s dive into the origins, uniqueness, and present-day life of the Dangme language. Dangme is more closer to the Old Ga language than the modern Ga. Dangme is the original soul of the Ga language.  It is a Kwa languages in the Niger-Congo family. It is closely related to Ga, though the two are not mutually intelligible. THE FORGOTTEN GUANS OF GHANA

Guans are one of the widely spread ethnic groups in Ghana. They were mostly known as the Etsiifo, at least, the Fantes called them so. The Fantes said that they came to meet them at  the coastal areas of Ghana. Well, Etsiifo could not only refer to the coastal Guans, that is, the Awutu, Efutu, Krakye, Larteh etc. but then, a rather linguistically diversed group who could have also once occupied the coasts of Ghana.  Those would be the Nyagbo, Tafi and Asebu (who later amalgamated with the Ahantas in the present day Western Region and the remaining Asebu  group would later migrate to Bowire, a town in the Oti Region to amalgamate with the Kpokpaase-Ofo to form the Bowire tribe.) This development has led the Nyagbo, Tafi and Bowire to be referred to as Guans but it is not so. Huniah-Yourhighness Tv officially started November 2021, with the aim to help create a channel for the learning of the Ga language principally. Dangme was later included. The Ga lessons are highly patronised as compared to its Dangme counterpart. In the future, there is likely to be a revision due to the statistics that would be available then. Many ask how lessons are structured on this channel because they do not seem to follow any order and appear to be scanty. THE EFUTU AND AWUTUS OF COASTAL GHANA

THE EFUTUS ( Article directly sourced from the book KNOW GHANA BETTER written by Huniah Tetteh ) The Efutu ancestors lived with the Ga people when the others had left for the mountains. With time, their dialect was fading away as they became bilingual Ga and Efutu speakers and most of them alternated for the Ga language. The Ga people were confused about the type of language they were speaking. It seemed to be a mixture of languages. Also they had mixed up with the Ga people hence the name “Efutu” which means “mixed-up” in the Ga language. The Efutu learnt fishing and after some years of living with the Ga-Dangmes, they decided to leave to a desolate land where they can salvage their language which had broken down into dialects.
